Humble beginnings. Impactful future.

The seeds of Love For Malawi were planted in 2017 when TaMara Kampondeni, the daughter of Benjamin Kampondeni and Maureen Mankhwala, asked guests attending her 40th birthday party to make a donation to people affected by severe flooding in her home country of Malawi, Africa in lieu of birthday gifts. Those funds were used to help flood victims with food and temporary shelter.

Seeds Bearing Fruit

The seeds of the Foundation continued to grow from an effort by TaMara and her husband, Scott Correira, to provide desks to Ntambanyama Primary School in Thylo (pronounced Cho-Low) Malawi.  Using funds donated from high school friends of Scott’s, a matching donation from a non-profit organization, and with Scott and TaMara’s personal contribution,  the yet to be formed Foundation built 23 school desks in Malawi and delivered them to the school via TaMara’s cousin Mwazikani Mankhwala, who lives in Malawi.  The desks created quite a stir on the day of delivery, and produced a humble and deeply appreciative response from the Deputy Headmaster and staff of the school.

Creating a Vision

This experience touched Scott and TaMara so deeply that they decided to create The Benjamin Kampondeni and Maureen Mankhwala Charitable Organization (doing business as Love For Malawi) to engage in more projects such as these initial efforts to aid the people of Malawi. Named after the parents of TaMara Kampondeni, The organization continues to work diligently to assist the under-served people of Malawi. Millions of Malawians lack basic human needs such as food, clean water, clothing, shelter, and basic healthcare.

Love For Malawi engages local leaders and members of the Thyolo community in these critical areas. Our approach focuses on the necessity of involving local leadership and community residents in identifying the most pressing needs in our critical areas of focus, and gaining support and commitment from the Thyolo community on crafting, implementing, and sustaining long term solutions
