Chairman - Mr. Scott Correira

Mr. Correira is a successful businessman and entrepreneur, having founded, owned, and operated collegiate sports marketing company Play By Play Sports, LLC (PBP).  As PBP’s President for over 20 years, Mr. Correira built a multi-million dollar firm, with such esteemed clients as the University of Notre Dame, and the Army-Navy Game (“America’s Game”), and he has extensive experience building marketing and branding campaigns in conjunction with leading Fortune 500 companies.  Mr. Correira has expertise in strategic planning, sales and marketing, and organizational management.  

He has served in charitable and non-profit organizations, including as Vice-Chair for the Food Bank of N. Indiana, Committee Member with Habitat For Humanity, and volunteer efforts with the homeless.  He has a passion for giving back to underserved communities, especially those in extreme poverty globally.  Mr. Correira has an M.B.A. degree from George Mason University, Fairfax, VA, and a Bachelor’s degree in Radio/TV from Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, PA.

Vice-Chairman - Dr. Samuel Kampondeni, MD

Dr. Sam Kampondeni is a radiologist in private practice in Limbe, Malawi. He has experience with the community situation in rural areas of Malawi. Having worked in the Health Sector in Malawi for over 20 years, he has experience with development of health systems.

Treasurer – Dr. Etta Nevel, M.D. Ob/Gyn

Dr. Nevel spent thirty-five years as a board certified OB/GYN medical doctor in South Bend, Indiana, retiring from full-time practice in 2016. A graduate of the Indiana University Medical School, Dr. Nevel completed her Ob/Gyn residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout her career, Dr. Nevel served in various leadership positions on the South Bend Medical Foundation Board, and Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. She also served as Chief of Obstetrics at Memorial Hospital, and served one term as President of the Medical Staff at Memorial. Dr. Nevel continues to provide her medical expertise as a traveling OB/GYN throughout various parts of the U.S.

Dr. Nevel has a passion for helping the underserved, and has provided medical expertise and services as a volunteer in countries such as Kenya and Nicaragua. An avid international traveler, she enjoys interacting with people of different countries and cultures. Dr. Nevel has spent considerable time visiting African countries Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia, and she is excited to help the people of Malawi, and visit the “Warm Heart of Africa” through her service as a board member of Love For Malawi.

Secretary - Dr. Corey Smith, Ph.D. - Director, Health Equity Evaluation, Corewell Health

Corey received his PhD from the Interdisciplinary PhD in Evaluation program at Western Michigan University. He has over a decade's worth of experience conducting evaluations in various sectors including K-12 education, philanthropy, international development, and health. He currently works as the director for health equity evaluation at Corewell Health, Michigan's largest healthcare system, where he leads a team of evaluators, analysts, and researchers in support of the system's mission to advance health equity.

Board Member - Ms. Maureen Julie Mankhwala

Ms. Mankhwala is a founding member of the Board of Directors of Love For Malawi, which is a DBA of the Benjamin Kampondeni and Maureen Mankhwala Charitable Organization. The organization takes part of its name from Ms. Mankhwala due to her lifelong commitment to helping the under privileged residents of Malawi.

A native resident of Thyolo, Malawi, Ms. Mankhwala graduated from Stella Maris Secondary School, Soche Technical College, and Living Waters Bible College with a Diploma in Missions. Despite limited resources, her giving heart has been on display as she has helped less fortunate residents of Malawi through countless acts of charity, including taking orphaned children into her home, and providing financial support to numerous individuals. Ms. Mankhwala has been a shining example of love of neighbor, often giving all she has to those who have nothing. As she has been known to say, “How can you not share when you see a person who has nothing to eat?”

Board Member - Ms. TaMara Kampondeni

Ms. Kampondeni is a native of Malawi, Africa.  She possesses a Masters of Science Degree in Community and International Development Studies from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Indiana University of South Bend, Indiana, where she graduated with honors. Ms. Kampondeni has educational and practical experience in Community and International charitable service, working in various capacities as a volunteer, intern, and employee with several non-profit organizations targeting homelessness, healthcare in disadvantaged communities, and supporting immigrants.  She combines her extensive educational and career expertise with her passion for serving the underprivileged.  Ms. Kampondeni is also a successful business woman, as founder and owner of Tule’ Spa in Mishawaka, IN.

Board Member – Ms. Samantha Reid Peterson

Samantha Reid Peterson is the Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel at The Entrepreneurs Boardroom, based in Austin, Texas. She brings a wealth of legal expertise and strategic insight to her role, drawing on extensive in-house counsel experience with prominent organizations such as Keller Williams Realty, Inc., and JP Morgan Chase & Co., where she skillfully navigated complex legal landscapes to support business objectives.

Her expertise spans numerous legal disciplines, including contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, risk management, and corporate law. Samantha has a proven track record of advising senior executives and leading teams through intricate legal challenges, ensuring alignment with business goals while mitigating risk. Samantha earned her degree in International Politics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and her Juris Doctor from New York Law School.

A passionate advocate for community service and mentoring, Samantha is an elected Board Member for Love for Malawi, CEO Kids Foundation, and the Lake Travis Youth Association, where she dedicates her efforts to helping communities in Africa and promoting local youth recreational sports. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, including her three young sons, staying active, and traveling.

Board Member – Mr. Greg S. Brown

Greg Brown held the position of Chief Executive Officer and President of Learfield, a leading collegiate sports media/marketing company, stepping down from that position in April of 2020. Mr. Brown worked at the company for more than 36 years from 1984 – 2020, and built Learfield into the largest and most innovative collegiate sports media/marketing company in the U.S. prior to his departure.

Mr. Brown currently serves an independent advisor to select financial sponsors/firms, serving as Operating Partner at Providence Equity Partners, Senior Executive Advisor to Coral Tree Partners, and as an Advisor to KB Partners (a Venture Capital sports tech fund). He also currently serves on the Boards of Wasserman, Sweetwater, 365 Retail and Accelerate (all Providence portfolio companies), as well as the National Football Foundation Board of Directors and Trustees, and Populous Architectural and Design.

Mr. Brown and his wife Geri have a variety of philanthropic interests outside of his advisory work. Greg and his wife have two children, a son Gavin (22) and daughter Gabriella (23). He enjoys travel, golf, skiing and pickleball. Mr. Brown is excited to be a part of the Board of Love for Malawi, and to try and help find unique ways to bring care and opportunity for the loving people of “the warm heart of Africa”.

Board Member – Mr. Tom Walsh

Tom Walsh is a Trial Lawyer, and Co-Chair of Complex Commercial Litigation for Winston & Strawn, LLP in Dallas, Texas. Tom’s skills as a seasoned trial lawyer have been widely recognized by a number of leading legal directories. Texas Super Lawyers has ranked Tom in the list of top lawyers in Texas from 2007–2023. And he has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America®for Intellectual Property Litigation from 2018–2024 and Commercial Litigation from 2014–2024.

Tom has substantial experience successfully handling complex commercial litigation cases, class action cases, and patent litigation cases in jurisdictions throughout Texas and the United States, and he previously served as a law clerk for the Honorable Joe Kendall, U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Texas.

Outside his law practice, Tom has extensive experience in radio and TV broadcasting, serving as the football radio play-by-play announcer for Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas, the largest private high school in Texas, for over 25 years. Additionally, Tom has called play-by-play and color commentary on radio and TV broadcasts for numerous basketball games on the college level. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.

Board Member – Mr. Michael Preissler

Michael Preissler is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Beacon Oral Specialist, an oral surgery company with more than 125 surgeons across 100 locations in 11 states.  Prior to that Michael was the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer at Global Medical Response, the largest medical transportation company in the world, for 16 years.  During this time, Michael also served for 5 years on the Board of Managers of CHC Helicopters, a leading world-wide aviation company in the energy industry.

Prior to joining Global Medical Response, Mr. Preissler was the Director of Finance for Brand Energy & Infrastructure Services, a world-wide company in the industrial services industry.  Mr. Preissler also held a variety of management positions during his 6 years at Delta Air Lines, including Corporate Finance and Strategy, Operations Planning, and Network Planning.  

Michael was previously a C.P.A. in the audit and assurances area of Deloitte.  He has a degree in Accounting with a second major in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from the Yale School of Management with an emphasis in Finance.

He has also been a licensed fixed wing pilot.  Michael lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife (Susie) and their 3 children, daughter Violet, son Graham, and daughter Whitney.  He is honored to be a part of this amazing organization trying to support the education and healthcare for the beautiful people of Malawi. 

Board Member - Ms. Rachel Sibande

Rachel Sibande is founder of Malawi's first technology and incubator hub for emerging entrepreneurs; mHub. The hub has provided over USD2.2million in grant financing to innovative entrepreneurs; trained and incubated over 2,950 youth and women led enterprises with business development skills. The hub has also trained over 112,000 youths and 108 teachers with basic to advanced digital skills such as graphic design, web and mobile application development, robotics, artificial intelligence and internet of things (ioT).

In her career, Rachel has led programs at the intersection of digital, big data, artificial intelligence, machine learning and development sectors such as digital financial services, public health, agriculture, elections monitoring and disaster management in over 22 countries.

In 2018, Rachel invented a thermal chemical process for generating electricity for rural mini grids from maize cobs. The invention won the Next Einstein Forum Innovation to Invention award. She is an alumni of President Obama’s flagship program, the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Business and Entrepreneurship track from 2012. She is a Google Scholar having won the Anita Borg Scholarship from Google for outstanding PhD computer science students in the world in 2015. She has been listed twice by Forbes as 30 under 30 young entrepreneur in 2016 and as a new wealth creator in 2019.

Rachel currently serves as Senior Officer for Global Development at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She leads the curation of investments in the East Africa region.

She is currently reading for an Executive Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from Rhodes University in South Africa, a Masters degree in Information Theory, Coding and Cryptography from the Mzuzu University obtained with a distinction and a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from the University of Malawi obtained with credit.
